Amazon Prime Video’s live-action adaptation of Tomb Raider is officially moving forward, with filming set to begin on January 19, 2026. Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones, X-Men: Dark Phoenix) has been confirmed to star as the iconic adventurer Lara Croft.

A New Era for Lara Croft
Originally greenlit in May 2024, the series has been steadily building anticipation. Turner’s involvement was first rumored in late 2024, and now Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed her as the lead. She follows in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who previously brought the character to life on the big screen.
“I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft,” Turner said. “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got.”

Creative Team Behind the Series
Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) will serve as creator, writer, and executive producer, now joined by Chad Hodge (Good Behavior, Wayward Pines) as co-showrunner and executive producer. Jonathan van Tulleken (Shogun, Top Boy) has been tapped to direct and executive produce.
“Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara,” Waller-Bridge said. “Get your artifacts out… Croft is coming.”

Honoring the Legacy of Tomb Raider
Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Crystal Dynamics, Legendary Television, and Story Kitchen, the series is set to expand the Tomb Raider universe with new adventures. Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Prime Video, emphasized Turner’s casting:
“Lara Croft is one of the most recognizable and iconic video game characters of all time. We are thrilled to have Sophie Turner bring this character to life, defined by her courage, strength, and unshakable resolve.”
The series is part of a larger agreement between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios to develop Tomb Raider stories across both film and television.
