Dino Crisis Remake Was Reportedly Attempted Twice, But Both Projects Were Scrapped

The long-dormant Dino Crisis franchise has once again surfaced in the rumor mill—this time with disappointing news. According to well-known CAPCOM leaker Dusk Golem, a remake of the first game was attempted twice in recent years, but neither project made it to release due to unsatisfactory quality.

The first attempt reportedly came from CAPCOM Vancouver before the studio was shut down. A second attempt was made by another CAPCOM team more recently, but the results “weren’t turning out good” and the project was eventually scrapped.

A Possible Comeback on the Horizon?

Despite these failed efforts, fans still have reason to hope. Earlier this year, CAPCOM renewed the Dino Crisis trademark in both Japan and Brazil. The Brazilian filing is particularly notable as it was made at the same time as the Resident Evil Requiem trademark, under the same classification for entertainment and video games.

While trademarks alone don’t guarantee new projects, they are often a strong signal that a publisher intends to revive an IP.

The Series’ Small Return on PC

While fans wait for a proper remake, CAPCOM did give the series a small revival earlier this year with the GOG release of Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2. These versions included modern upgrades such as:

  • Improved DirectX renderer
  • New rendering options (V-Sync, gamma correction, integer scaling, anti-aliasing)
  • 4K resolution support and 32-bit color depth
  • Enhanced geometry calculation and smoother animations
  • Better video and music playback
  • Cloud saves support

These updates allowed a new generation of players to experience the cult-classic survival horror series in modern form.

Long Overdue for a Return

The Dino Crisis series has been dormant for decades, but the growing demand for classic survival horror revivals—and the success of CAPCOM’s Resident Evil remakes—keeps hope alive. With trademarks freshly renewed and fan demand stronger than ever, the question remains: is CAPCOM finally ready to bring Regina back?
